Golf
An Inclusive Game for Every Athlete.
The David Marshall Youth Golf Academy is proud to support Special Olympics Barbados through inclusive golf training that empowers athletes of all abilities. Golf has become one of the newest and most exciting disciplines within Special Olympics Barbados, inspiring athletes with the opportunity to learn new skills, build confidence, and experience the joy of achievement. This growth was strengthened through a landmark four-day Golf Workshop and Clinic held at the Barbados Golf Club in 2013, where athletes were introduced to the game and coaches received specialised training, laying the foundation for the official launch of the programme.
David Marshall plays a key role in the continued development of Special Olympics golf in Barbados, providing consistent coaching and mentorship to athletes training weekly at the Barbados Golf Club. Since Leander Brathwaite’s gold medal success at the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games, interest in golf has continued to grow, with athletes - including Desiree Hinds - demonstrating remarkable talent, dedication, and enthusiasm. Through structured training, access to world-class facilities, and the guidance of committed coaches, Special Olympics golf helps athletes build self-confidence, independence, and a strong sense of inclusion both on and off the course.
